Hyun Hee Lee
Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award (JADA)

Hyun Hee Lee has been selected as a finalist in the 2018 Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award (JADA) for her drawing titled Compassion. Hyun Hee Lee is an Australian-Korean artist whose work explores memories and events as they appear to her from the standpoint of her present reality. She is fascinated by the way memories are distorted, changed and coloured by time and the emotional responses triggered by those memories.

This year, the JADA received 498 entries across Australia, out of which a shortlist of 55 works were selected. The award has been the means by which the Grafton Regional Gallery has gathered a unique and impressive collection of contemporary Australian drawing. The JADA provides artists who reside in Australia a unique opportunity to explore the complexity of drawing. The award seeks to encourage and promote innovation and excellence and plays a vital role in fostering Australian drawing practice.

The winner will be announced at the opening night of the exhibition, on Friday 26 October from 6.30pm.

The exhibition will be on display at Grafton Regional Gallery from Saturday 27 October to 9 December 2018, and will then tour to other regional galleries throughout 2019 to 2o2o, including Manning Regional Gallery, Hervey Bay, Regional Gallery, University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery, Griffith Regional Art Gallery, Latrobe Regional Gallery and Tamworth Regional Gallery.
