Claude Jones completed her Diploma of Fine Arts at The National Art School (Sydney) before attaining a Master of Visual Arts from Sydney College of the Arts. She has studied visual arts in Australia, Canada and America and is currently a lecturer in the printmaking department at Sydney College of the Arts.
Claude Jones has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally. She has been awarded artist residencies in Canada, North America and Spain. Her work focuses on the creation of peculiar biologies – hybrid and mutant chimeras that reflect our changing biological and psychological relationship to nature. Her prints, drawings and sculptures are represented in public and private collections around the world including Artbank, The Art Gallery of New South Wales and The Rhode Island School of Design in the U.S.A.
Claude Jones has been the recipient of a number of art grants including the Australia Council for the Arts’ Art Start Grant, the Janet Holmes a Court Artists Grant, and the Zelda Steadman Scholarshipawarded by Sydney College of the Arts. She has been the winner of the Painting and Drawing category of the It’s Liquid International Art Prize (2012) and Moreton Bay Art Prize (2011), received Runner Up for the Mount Eyre Art Prize (2011), and received Highly Commended in the Corangamarah Art Prize(2015).
