Shoufay Derz
Between Two Worlds at Newcastle Art Gallery

Shoufay Derz is currently exhibiting as part of Between Two Worlds, an exhibition at Newcastle Art Gallery curated by Catherine Croll.

Between Two Worlds aims to create conversations between artists and audiences while promoting the diversity of works of art being produced by Australian artists of Chinese heritage.

The exhibition introduces audiences to the breadth of Chinese art forms underpinning the long relationship between China and Australia. Between Two Worlds acknowledges the artists who have lived, worked and are connected to China and Australia through migration, major historical events and Australia’s agricultural and industrial developments.

Showcasing the work of generations of Chinese Australian artists, the exhibition also features works of art by Aboriginal artists who are exploring their own Chinese heritage. This dynamic exhibition will incorporate installation, paintings, photography, sculptures and video, which examine a myriad of themes ranging from cultural identity, globalisation, migration and the notion of journey. Between Two Worlds includes works of art from the Newcastle Art Gallery collection, the National Portrait Gallery, and other public and private lenders from around Australia.
