Congratulations to Owen Leong who was recently awarded a prestigious Asialink Visual Arts Residency. Owen is currently completing this three month residency in Hong Kong and is being hosted by the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
Asialink Arts facilitates residencies and projects for arts professionals, and provides opportunities for cultural development and exploration of new markets and audiences. This year the program received 297 eligible applications nation-wide, from which 33 residencies were awarded across all art forms.
Owen Leong will undertake a three-month artist residency at the Hong Kong Arts Centre. He will conduct archival research into 1950s photographic material while based in Hong Kong. Exploring familial history, the artist will focus on images relating to British colonialism, social change, and mass migration from mainland China to Hong Kong. Based on this research, Owen will produce work for a major solo exhibition in 2018.
