Liam Benson
Site of Passage

Artist Liam Benson is currently exhibiting as part of a group show titled Site of Passage at Customs House in Sydney.

As part of the exhibition curators Claire Field and Tian Zhang bring together nine artists that reflect on their personal journeys in carving themselves a place within the fabric of Australian culture. Looking to the personal connections between artists, land and ancestry, this exhibition explores the shaping of an identity when faced with displacement, and the tactics undertaken in finding a comfortable sense of self.

Photographs from Benson’s Motherland series which provide a social and political commentary on identity and nationhood will be displayed as part of the exhibition. Site of Passage draws on the history of Customs House, a symbolic place of transition and site of cross-cultural interaction, audiences are invited to this site to engage with works on display, and reflect and converse about their own personal stories.

Site of Passage is a free exhibition and will run until 28 October, 2018. Exhibiting artist are Atong Atem, Cigdem Aydemir, Anindita Banerjee, Liam Benson, Vonda Keji, Nikki Lam, Nicole Monks, Raquel Ormella and Christian Thompson. For more information visit the City of Sydney website.
