Anne Macdonald’s work is currently exhibited in ‘Know My Name’, an initiative lead by the National Gallery of Australia.
‘Know My Name‘ celebrates the work of all women artists with an aim to enhance understanding of their contribution to Australia’s cultural life.
Macdonald’s ‘Ornament’ was created from a series of photographic field trips to Highgate Cemetery, London, Rookwood Necropolis, Sydney, and Cornelian Bay, Hobart.
As tokens of love and remembrance, floral grave ornaments offer greater
longevity than freshly cut flowers, yet they eventually fall prey to duration.
Slowly disintegrating through the inexorable passage of time, they are elegiac metaphors for the transience of all things, premonitions of death rather than evocations of eternal life.
