I saw my grandmother’s body burn
her ashes replaced our air
and I could taste her death.
she burnt my throat in search of life to cling to
if she could not be with us, she is to be a part of us
still bits of her resting in my lungs
she is buried next to my grandfather underneath a yang mei tree
I try to believe she is in (her) heaven
but I really just don’t know.
Louise Zhang recently completed a two month residency at Organhaus in Chongqing, as part of the Two to Three 二到三 residency program.
The program is supported by the Australian Copyright Agency Cultural Fund and allows for an Australian artist to spend 4-8 weeks as artist in residence at Organhaus, an artist-run space in the central city of Chongqing in China with a focus on nurturing emerging experimental and mutli-media artists.
To conclude her residency Louise Zhang presented Soft Horror, a solo exhibition of new works created whilst on residency at Organhaus, which ran from 21 April – 4 May, 2017.
